What is a Neuropsychologist?

Clinical Neuropsychologists are psychologists who undertake specialised training in the brain, its functioning, and how various brain conditions impact on thinking, memory, emotions, behaviour, and everyday living skills. Clinical Neuropsychologists are expert in diagnosing and supporting individuals presenting with all kinds of brain-based concerns, ranging from lifelong difficulties (e.g., Intellectual Disability), through acquired brain injuries (e.g., caused by stroke, road accidents, or alcohol), progressive cognitive decline (e.g., dementia), and the impacts of other medical conditions on the brain (including psychiatric diagnoses).

Clinical Neuropsychologists are registered with the Australian Health Practitioners Agency (AHPRA) and the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA), which hold them to high standards of ethical practice, competency, and ongoing professional development.
